Gibson/Epiphone Chet Atkins Guitar Poll

Postby guitarchuck » Mon Aug 16, 2010 10:31 pm

I thought it would be interesting to see what Gibson/Epiphone Chet Atkins model guitars that people own here on the Chetboard. It's an anonymous poll, so people won't know what each individual owns just an overall tally.
Thanks,

It looks like the Gibson CE/CEC tops the list right now on this poll. It's interesting to see which models few people own. I was really surprised to see that no one posted a Gibson Tennessean for quite some time. I guess no Bigsby causes people to shy away from that one. Others didn't surprise me, like the: Gibson Studio Classic fleur-de-lis (someone posted one and then removed it, I don't know what happened there) and the Gibson Phasar/CGP/Sunrise. Both of those guitars are quite rare. I am surprised there aren't very many SST's out there, although we all know that they aren't the best fingerstyle guitars.
Thanks,

That's one thing that this poll can't do is count more than one of the same model from someone. By the way JJ, which CG do you like better, the Nashville model or the Memphis model?

The one made in Memphis matches the NC in sound. The one made in Nashville matches the NC in neck feel.

Just got a Tennessean(Gibson)and I love this guitar.I think the kids shy away from the 1 3/4" neck and you're right the lack of a Bigsby hurts sales also(a Bigsby could be added easily but the guitar sounds so good without it,I don't want to change the tone).List price on the last Tennessean's made was around 4K but they can be had from 1100.00 to 1400.00 all the time.I love my 335(Gibson,real '62)but I like this guitar much better.16 fret neck joint and light center block make this guitar really ring, plus 5.7K neck pup is perfect.String balance is the best I've heard in any guitar ever.I feel as if I've found the worlds best kept secret in this Tennessean. God Bless, Ty M.

It is my understanding that the Gibson Tennessean (designed in part by Paul Yandell) IS a 335, for all practical purposes. It is basically the same guitar as the 335, but with only one cutaway!

Gibson Tennesean is part 335 but the neck is 25.5 scale and 1.75 nut and you won't find that on a 335.

Plus the pickups match the Gibson C.G. pickups.

Wow, if that's the case, then I stand corrected!

I was just going by what a guy at the Gibson factory told me...maybe they just lopped off one of the cutaways of a 335 body. If they changed that many things, then it's certainly a different guitar! :)
