I have been playing a long time...more years than I care to admit...and i do just ok with thumb style, but I was wondering if anyone out there does lessons via skype in this style. I feel there are certain things I am missing in my playing that a good teacher could pick up on and help me with. Such things as using better inversions of chords to allow for more open string lead notes, embellishing the songs with some more interesting chord fills that I hear guys like Paul Moseley and others use on Avalon, etc. Any help would be appreciated. I am retired and have the desire and time to devote to improvement. I have alot of tab, but thats not what I need. Thanks in advance for any information.

Larry,
I think John Standefer was offering some lessons using skype. Don't know if this is still available, but you might check out his website.

With Bruce, I'm not sure why we aren't see him lately? I know that his health wasn't good and the day I spent with him at his home last December was just after his visit to his doctor. However, I also know that he sometimes gets burned out after all of his high density posting and he takes a break. I don't know which it is?

I'd recommend:
- Richard Smith
- Brooks Robertson
Both offer Skype lessons, easily payable through Paypal and to my knowledge for a decent price.
You may want to contact Richard through Facebook, for example:

Here is John Standerfer's info page. Thursdays are his Skype day and recent emails with him indicate he has a few open slots.

Larry,
As has been noted, I have taken a few Skype lessons from Richard Smith, and I highly recommend him. Even on the odd chance that you want to learn something that Richard hasn't played, he can learn it himself, note for note, quicker than anybody I have ever seen.
While I haven't interacted with Brooks, I am certainly very impressed with him, and I know that Buster thought very highly of him (and told me he had never seen anyone who was such a Natural with the guitar and who picked up his licks so quickly and fluently). No doubt he would be great.
Sorry I haven't posted in a while. As a creative person, I sometimes get in ruts that are the equivalent of writer's block: I just completely lose interest in playing, and it can last for weeks and even months, and then all of a sudden, one day I wake up wired to play again. So, that's the scoop. I did pick a little today, but nothing creative yet ... just the same ole same ole.
Take care
Bruce

Thanks for all the information guys. I will be at CAAS next week and I will talk to both Richard and John about the lessons. I have been going to CAAS since 1993 and have obviously seen and heard the great picking these guys do...it would be intimidating to take lessons from any of the players you mentioned, but it would bound to be beneficial to me, if they dont throw up their hands and say forget it,,,find something else to do with your time...haha
Anyway, thanks again for the information.

I am taking skype lessons from Randy Buckner and he is simply outstanding. He teaches out of Hoover Music and you can find information at the following link:
