The Chetboard

Anyone familiar with the Bigsby on this Gibson? The string attachment looks like a different design. Bigsby's website doesn't show anything like it.

There are a couple gadgets out there like that.

They should just drill the d__n things and eliminate the pins altogether but for some reason they won't do that. I've had a straight through string bar on mine for almost two years and no broken strings or bigsby malfunction because of it.

Mike - This picture is a B-7 (from Bigsby's website). But in the first photo above, the string attachment is different - that's what I was curious about.

I did a screen capture of your photo . . .

It looks to possibly be a prototype of a quick re-string Bigsby that might be in the works by either Bigsby or a third party.

Or, It could even be an adapter from a third party that slips over the Bigsby's pins . . .

I understand that, Mike, and I know a lot of guys do that. I used to wedge a bit of Pink Pearl eraser between the pin and the guitar top. That worked great. The guys a gretschpages reccomend variations on those two methods.

My point is that there is no reason for them to even have the pins to begin with if they were to drill and chamfer the things. They would even save money from a manufacturing standpoint.

I know EXACTLY WHY Bigsby still uses the pins . . .

There'd be a TIGHT 90 degree BEND on the strings that would GREATLY increase the probability string breakage.

Players often bitch about their guitars being more difficult to tune, and keep in tune, with a Bigsby. imagine what chronic string breakage would do to their sales . . .
