Paul made this comment when the guitar was made:

As for price, Gibson charges what ever the market will bear. A week after it was brought out the price of the carved top guitars doubled so I think will be mostly doctors and lawyers and people who buy those kind of guitars for investments rather than pickers. Maybe if Chet had got to play it more on TV the 4000 would have been a big seller. I believe he only played it twice on TV before he got sick. I think the 4000 is the best looking guitar Gibson makes.

In any case it appears someone is putting it to the test. Optimistic, whoever it is.

Yes... as does Gretsch, Sand, Martin, Taylor, and probably all the "quality" guitar makers, etc.

This subject always reminds me of the old joke about the guy trying to sell a "thousand dollar bird dog".

After running an ad in the local paper for weeks about the dog and receiving no inquiries, he received a call from a prospective buyer.

After the man calling introduced himself, he admitted that he did not actually have a thousand dollars, but he wanted to know if the seller would be willing to take five-hundred dollars in cash, plus a "five hundred dollar cat" in payment?

The moral of this story is: "Value" is a relative term, and entirely dependent upon who is determining that value, the seller, or the buyer!

In my personal "humble opinion", there is not a guitar on the face of the earth, "worth" $29,000.00 ! :)

I know that I could never get 29k worth of music out of it that's for sure. I can't imagine that it has that much more value than a Super 400.

In my archive
"...they were going to make twenty five of them but I don't know if that is cast in concrete..."

They probably only made a few and some guy's trying to turn a buck.

Heck, they sold a chinese dish and thought bidding would go as high as ten million and you can't even put a bigsby on it! :D

I would say that Chet's D'Angelico would be worth $29,000.

Doing a quick search.. Heritage Auctions had one of these up for sale back in Feb 2009.. so over 3 years ago!! It could have been the same guitar. The estimated value was 20-30K!! Perhaps that's what this guy is basing his value on.. Unfortunately they don't tell you what that guitar sold for (if it sold) in 2009.. Its just wood and wires to me. IOW nothing of value to me!!
