Hi, Brian...
I have a Taylor 414ce which has the ovangkol back and sides and it makes for a great fingerstyle guitar. I love the sound I get out of it both plugged and unplugged. It is the grand auditorium body shape and uses .012 throught .053 strings. If you like medium guage strings, the dreadnought would probably work just fine especially if you have a heavier attack on your picking hand. -Tom W.

I have an Alvarez that has Ovangkol with a cedar top. I think that Ovangkol is to Indian Rosewood what Sapele is to Mahogany.. Well, that is what I've been told. As for tonal quality.. on my guitar is seems pretty close to other models that have Rosewood back and sides. Probably not much help but there you go.
