The Chetboard

Understanding this is a Chet Atkins and Gretsch related website hopefully the community will accept my most humble apology for posting a non-related question.

I recently came across a bass guitar with the name "Scott" on the headstock. Tried Googling the brand name and got no where. Has anyone ever heard of this brand? It's been inspected and has a serial number so I don't think it's home-made. I think it predates the 80's on account of the bridge. It's got what I call "Barrel" saddles. If ANYONE has any information they can lend me about this bass please send it my way. Trying to see if this bass is a rare one or just another off brand.

Looks to be just another oriental copy of a Fender to me. Probably the most copied body/head style in imported basses.

"Rare" does not always mean "valuable". And if you can't find a manufacturer via google it was likely jobbed in Asia and labelled according to the wishes of the folks that bought the lot. I suppose it Could be a handmade but your photo is too ambivilant to tell

NOT worth worrying about it's origin as long as it plays & stays IN TUNE . . .

Well it's not Asian due to the fact it has the French crest on the headstock. But I agree with playing it. It is just a matter of curiosity of where it's from. I like to be able to tell people where it's from and give information on the guitar itself. Here's a picture of the Brand. Hope it helps. And yes I agree there are very many Fender copies out.

The fleur-de-leis could just be a design device. Doesn't necessarily mean it's anything to do with France.

Hope you do find out the source to your satisfaction but unless you can find a "made in ___" label I'd still call it Asian and possibly Chinese since they are really lax about labelling accountability.

But all that is pure guesswork on my part.

Well I really appreciate in Norm. I do hope I find a manufacturer. It's just a thing with me having to know all about my equipment.

It's definitely a NO-NAME from one of the many Asian clone manufacturers of the mid-70s . . .

Wow...thank you so much. Now I'm gonna spend countless hours researching the brand. I read that they have a tone and sound that can't be found elsewhere. And by what I've read so far they are compared in quality to the Fender Jazz Basses. Thanks fellas and I greatly appreciate your help. I wonder why Teisco puts "Scott" on the headstock?????

Do yourself a real favor . . .

PRACTICE your scales, instead of WASTING YOUR TIME researching something that going to produce USELESS INFORMATION.

After all, when you drop a hankey, do you look down in the bowel and worry where it's going prior to flushing a final farewell???

NO, and neither did the company who made your bass, along with several hundreds of thousands of NO-NAME instruments nearly 40-years ago . . .

If it were an actual Fender Jazz bass, you'd have EVERY bit of any & all info about it (including a production date based on it's serial number) in just a few clicks . . . but NOT this one . . .

Lighten up a little, Mike and quit telling him what to do with his spare time. If he wants to research the brand it's his perogative. He obviously likes his guitar and may be new to What's Out There in the manner of brands, knock-offs and imported stuff. Let him find out.

For all you know he may already be putting in a lot of practice time. The thing is,you don't have any idea what he does musically at all.

Not that it'll do much good but it is suggested that writing IN CAPS is a lot like shouting in online forums and not many people like being shouted at.

It's one thing to answer a question or post an opinion. Quite another to accuse someone of wasting their time because they want to do something you don't approve of.
