Despite the strong feelings.....this really is an interesting topic. It would appear that everyone has their own take on the subject. Where do you stand?

I had trouble with your voting selections. I am always one who is "sensitive to the vibe of the store", but ideally I would like that "vibe" to be one in which I don't feel pressured or rushed. I'm easy to get rid of but I'm most comfortable when there is a feeling that there is no concern about when I'll leave. I never saw that combination of elements among your choices.

By the way, will you continue to persist in remaining totally anonymous? You'd be safe with me. I have more important things to do than to hunt you down and do you bodily harm........lol.

It would have been a long poll if I had tried to get into all the possibilities. I tried to put a variety...and figured people could comment (like you did) if they wanted to get into it deeper.

I agree with your assessment....there are times when someone is playing in a shop...and people are listening, no pressure....and everyone (including the owner) is happy with it. Just depends on the day and the circumstances.

I hope people realize the poll is anonymous (unless you want to comment) and participate. But, I think the Chetboard is kind of a quiet (in a good way) bunch.

If I admitted that I am Charlie Sheen it would kind of take the fun out of it at this point. So I'll keep it to myself for now.

It would be okay with me if you WERE Charlie Sheen. My bottom line feeling is that I'm "socially intelligent" enough to know when I'm welcome vs. knowing when it's time to leave a situation. That in itself would be enough "safety" for the management. However, I realize that there are many who grossly overstay their welcome. I really don't feel that Phil or Eddie are among these. I know them personally and they are really great guys who I've always felt had good old-fashioned values. The concern that I saw expressed would apply more to the "teenage headbangers" who even I as a customer in the store would be happy to assist the "music store bouncer" in hastily removing......lol.

I guess I've changed a lot, I rarely go into music stores anymore. I buy most of my strings and things off of the computer. Guitars, well I am pretty lucky to own the ones I have. I am sure there are ones out there I'd like but I guess I just came to the conclusion after all these years it's in the hands. Eddie you probably remember Chet playing that $300.00 gibson classical Chet played at the convention a while back. Blew me away for sure! Al

The word "vibe" is kind of all encompassing or broad!!! I like what you have said Rande.. I would hope that I'm sensitive to others (owners and customers) when I go into stores!! The place that I seem to buy most of my gear is the one where they remember my name and always engage me in conversations that are not always related to guitars. Go figure!!

Eddie, as a mathematician I would say that your period of fame was extended to at least PI seconds (3.1415926535.....)....lol. You got us all thinking and reevaluating. Thanks.

Yes, at least PI, considering almost a whole 3% of Chetboard Members cared enough about the subject to bother voting. (0.02835051546 to be exact.)
