The seller is lucky! The price is already hitting the $1000 with still two days to go... I wouldn't be surprised if it's reaching $1.500.

Potential buyers have now the choice on eBay:
1. A real Baldwin 801CP with original Prismatone (but without the battery-box) for $10.000
2. A very good alternative, Harmony H-174 with Prismatone II pickup starting at $75

Hard choice....

Curious: how many people here on the board have a Baldwin 801CP?

I would assume the Harmony seller is getting a tremendous return on his investment. Sam should start buying up a bunch of 174's...

After a neck reset, complete refret and one of Sam's Prisimatones... I doubt the seller will recover his investment!! But what do I know? (Rhetorical question :))

I couldn't resist to send a message to the seller on ebay with the 801CP that his price of $10,000 joke. I sent him a message that he needs to start it off lower and then maybe he'll get some bids. Needless to say he didn't like what I had to say to him and sent me a "nasty gram". Oh well, I'd rather buy Steves' H-174 that has already been set up by Mark Piper anyday and has one of Sams' pickups on it. I'd love to get my hands on a H-174 or another Baldwin and chop it like Jerry's.

If you click on the "11 Bids" link, you'll see that the last two bidders have "0" and "1" feedback scores. Not a real good sign for that deal to go through successfully, so I'd have doubts if I were the seller. Good Luck to him/her though... if they collect $1000 for a Harmony guitar, maybe the recession really is over... :?

Bill-

I hear H177's are going for $37.50 these days. ;)

Craig

P.S. I've been keeping mine in open E flat lately (open D, 1/2 step higher). That guitar just seems to "like" being tuned a half step low.

Boy I hope for that price that Harmony sounds good acoustically! If not....plug it in!!!!! Ya Phil....I wanted to send that seller a message too. 10,000 is insane for sure.....and he says that his guitar doesnt come with the battery-powered pre-amp that some people used....dont they ALL have the preamp??? I think he means the batterybox. Needless to say...he doesnt know as much as he thinks....fool. I've got a couple of 174's I plan on doing something with here soon.
