Seen a few of the Epiphone Chet Atkins nylons for sale here in the u.k. I doubt they come up to the Gibsons, are they any good or a real bummer?.............

I bought one of these five years ago. I over paid for shipping(from ebay) and then over paid to change the pickup back to the original system because the person before me had changed it and it sounded like plastic bands over a shoe box. The action was way too high and when i had it lowered the pickup sounded even worse, and then I lost money selling it. I think that this guitar is awful. sorry if anyone has one this is just my 2 cents. I don't think anyone should ever buy a guitar from ebay because of this reason.

Over the years the biggest complaint I've heard about them is you don't have the individual string volume control that the gibson models had. This can be a real problem for getting string volume balance. I think they're chambered a little different.

It's like "They're pretty good but they're no Gibson CEC"

I own a Chet Atkins CE Epiphone and can say after doing a proper setup which includes cranking big time on the trussrod my nylon Chet Epiphone CE classical is a joy to play these days. The action is dead on very low with no buzzs. I put on some
D"addairo EJ46 hard tension strings on it and it sounds great. I had La Bella strings on it they where med. tension and I switched to the Hard tension which made a big big difference sound wise. IN case anyone here needs nylon strings go to Amazon.com Super deal right. now 3 set's of D'addairo EJ46 Pro Arte Classical strings for get this $19.35 List price is $42.00 free shipping to boot! I bought a set at guitar center and they ripped me off 9 dollars plus tax for one set.. The only thing about the Chet Epiphone is the bridge saddles have no adjustment but for the measley $250. I paid off E Bay this guitar is great in every way. Oh yeah the plastic machine tuners are big time cheap some day I'll replace them but I don't play nylon my guitar as much as I should so I can live with it. . Joeb.

I think I got my last sets at Strings by Mail for 5 something. It was right at 20 with shipping.

I owned an Epi Chet Nylon model and it was pretty good. It had a Shadow high output piezo PU with a vol and tone control but no preamp. The action was pretty good as I remember. I don't like real high action classic guitars but you can't get good tone on nylon with action really low like a steel string. I brought it to CAAS one year to test amps and it sounded good and it was very sturdy. I came into a Taylor NS42 nylon acoustic/electric so I sold the Epi getting back what I had in it on Ebay. As I recall the nut width on the Epi was greater than that on my Taylor which made it more "classical".

I tried a couple of Epiphone CE's out and they were the worst pieces of junks I have ever seen and played. It's a wonder Chet's name is one them. Pickup is horrible, neck is horrible, and action was way too high.
I always wanted to try the Epiphone Studio Classic version though.
The Epiphone Country Gent was a pretty good guitar, Chet would use that model when he would fly overseas and play over in France with Marcel.
I heard when he flew over in '88 the neck snapped off and someone fixed it for him.

Phil, I've had a fairly long career where it was considered "job threatening" to be too open about my opinion on certain things and I always love the freedom with which you express yourself!
