I stopped by the Sand Guitars booth today and talked to Kirk. He showed me a guitar with a new pickup from Sam Kennedy...the Prismatone III. Basically, this is the classic Prismatone pickup, which has been modified and reshaped to retrofit in to guitars equipped with the original Gibson CEC pickup. The pickup can accept a regular saddle so you can shape for better intonation.



The pickup looks fantastic, and sounds great. I only had my iPhone with me. Tomorrow, I will take better pictures.

Did they say if the retrofit requires a special preamp, or does it use the existing preamp that comes in a Sand or Gibson?

I talked with Sam this morning, and he said that he can either supply you with one of his preamps, or he can include a connection (along with installation instructions) to use the Prismatone III pickup along with your existing preamp.

Here is a better photo of the Prismatone III in one of Kirk's guitars. This thing sounds good.......

That sucker is gonna blow RMC pickups away....you just watch and see. The regular Prismatone II's already do!

I think Sam has out done himself on this one!! You know, for the longest time it has been almost impossible to find a replacement Gibson pickup..........now we'll have one. Those Gibson pickups are prone to go bad......eventually.

I was in the Kirk Sand booth, and Rick Allred tried out the Prismatone III equipped Sand guitar. I filmed it with my iPhone, so it isn't as good of quality as with a camcorder.....

I have the video (Nero Movie) going but I have no audio. I clicked on the mute icon and adjusted the level still no audio. Perhaps I need to try another download? Any ideas? The video looks pretty good, I wish I could hear Rick? -Thanks

It's using QuickTime by Apple Inc on my computer (I just have a regular PC not an Apple). You might try downloading that.
