Ray Butts Gibson style pickup for sale
I'm taking offers on a Ray Butts neck pickup made to fit a Gibson neck position. I bought this from Ronnie Evans several years ago and I never used it for anything. I understand It was installed on a Gibson Country Gentleman several years ago.

Those are great pickups, very rich sound.
Hopefully, I won't get busted for this, but here's a clip of "Love Lifted Me" from my "Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs" CD from a few years back. I used a Gibson CG with a Butts front pickup. I either used all front pickup, or a blend with mostly the front. (I don't remember, it was over 10 years ago.)

Craig,
It just doesn't get any smoother than that! Craig Dobbins, a Gibson CG with Ray Butts PU, and a beautiful song.
Thanks for sharing it.

I'd like to add that these pickups are rare. The late Ray Butts wound them himself and only he could get that sound. I still have one of his PU's mounted in the front position of my Gibson CG and it enhanced the sound very much.

Craig, Thanks for posting your recording using Ray's pickup. You sound wonderful as usual! Ronnie, I hope you don't mind, I'm using the photo's that you sent me of my pickup that I'm selling:

I bought this pickup from Ronnie in 2008, I never did get around to putting it in a guitar. I no longer have a Gibson to put it in and I don't see one in my future anytime soon. So I decided to sell it to someone who will get some use out of it. I have one resonable offer so far and some other's interested. Like Ronnie said, this pickup was handmade by the late Ray Butts himself. His initals "RB" is stamped in the housing. I plan on selling it this weekend, so if anyone is interested, this chance don't come up very often.
I might also add, I have a photocopy of a letter from Ray Butts that tells how to install the pickup.

That's a great pickup, Chuck. Have you thought of installing it in a different guitar? I have mine in a Telecaster and it sounds really good. Thanks, Bill

Bill,
That's cool that you have one in a Tele. I've thought about putting it in another type guitar, but that's about as far as it got. I've decided to go ahead and sell it, I've had it around for almost 3 years now and I'm sure someone here on the Chetboard would like to put it to good use.

Just Listed: McKerrihan Guitar With Ray Butts Pickups
FYI, we just located a McKerrihan Fretstyle, built for the 1998 NAMM show, a 6120 style guitar hand carved of all solid tonewoods, that is fitted with a matched pair of original Ray Butts pickups. The posting with pix and info is here:
