Bad treble bleed capacitor?

Talk about guitars, amps and other gear.

That was a copy/paste of what Mike Nye posted as per his suggestion that it's possible it might be the wrong type of capacitor on the guitar in question altogether.

When I rewired my Gent I didn't use any capacitors at all... just pots and pickups...I adjust my tone at the amp. I have no suggestions for what kind of cap to add to a circiut.

OK . . . I'm gonna drive a stake through the heart of this thread . . .

If you want THE ULTIMATE TONE/FREQUENCY CONTROL, do what I intend to do with my CG . . .

a) PICK-UPS(2)

b) 500K Audio Taper Pots(2)

c) 1/4" Switchcraft Output Jacks(2) or 1/4" STEREO Jack(1) EACH wired DISCREET OUT (Stereo, if you wanna call it that).

d) Wire it all with Gotham Double-shielded interconnect cabling.

If you wanna get really trick, you can add a BLEND POT to mix BOTH pick-ups for a WARM echo effect between your bass line and melody passages . . .

e) Get yourself an SAE 1800 Stereo Parametric EQ (You can often find 'em on eBay)

If you care to step up, get an SAE E-101 EQ with a 6 preset programmable memory that's user settings are recalled at a touch of a switch . . .

Now ya got EVERYTHING you'd ever want, and the EQ even has tape/processor send/receive ports, so you can put your external processors either before or after the EQ so your echo doesn't get all muddied up . . .

No need to "drive a stake". Nobody is bad-mouthing anybody in this thread and last time I looked noboy had the perfect setup for guitar, either. That ain't going to happen because everyone has their own idea of what "best" sounds like.

A guy had a problem and several of us put in our two cents because that's what a forum is. A place to exchange ideas. Some of the suggestions would come in handy perhaps down the road if people had a similar problem.

Unless some people truly feel that, once they have stated their views, that should be the end of the discussion. If that's the case we should maybe vote to change the name of the forum to something else.

Drive a stake means . . . I'm DONE, as there's absolutely NOTHING more I could add . . .

Has absolutely NOTHING to do with BAD-MOUTHING ANYBODY . . .

Sorry about that, Norm. I was interested in Mike's comment (which I did think was yours at the time), though, because last year I had puzzled (being a hobbyist only) over the "odd" 223K nomenclature in that diagram. I had to look it up.

I think that I also momentarily confused the recent "capacitor posts" in this thread, with a previous thread about tone caps only. That's about the sum of it right now.

I do hope that our original post-er will report his findings before the thread gives its last gasp. LMark

My apologies, Mike.

The way I read your post about 'driving a stake" was it read to me like you thought enough had been said about the whole topic. By everyone.

My reference to 'bad mouth' meant that no one in the whole thread had said anything negative about anyone. That sometimes happens, y'know... and if you read my post you should see that I'm not accusing you or anyone else of bad mouthing on this thread. I thought it was pretty a interesting thread because of the different ideas being posted.

When I read your "stake through the heart" post I took it to mean you thought the discussion should end.

No need to get ruffled here... :)

Well, being YOU brought it up . . .

I belong to several technical & engineering discussion forums on the net.

There's one in particular that's moderated by one of the most brilliant engineers that ever was.

A newbie kept re & re-re-hashing a subject that had already been answered to the asker's satisfaction, and the matter was considered closed by ALL except for this one guy.

After several POLITE hints from the moderator to drop the subject and move on , this guy went off on a tangent, taking the subject into Bizzaro World ! ! !

He went into such details about superfluous things as if to maybe impress someone, that the moderator finally said to him just to shut him up:

"Ya know, I bet you'd analyze fly shiit if the little bastard'd stand still long enough!!!"

That without a doubt DROVE A STAKE THROUGH THE HEART of THAT DISCUSSION ! ! !

NO BAD-MOUTHING . . . Just sharing a funny story . . .

Norm & Mike, If I had you two guys living near me for technical help, I would never feel the need to go to anyone else. I don't understand enough to follow every detail that I read in your posts but I also end up being more impressed with what you say than either of you would expect. I could never follow your instructions.

Mike, your "real" first mistake would be to move to Michigan this time of year, though we're experiencing way above normal temperatures.
