Billy Anderson wrote:Hey guys, please reread the last line of my first paragraph (I am already a charter member of Densa). After being released this P.M. from the hospital where I was treated for a mild case of character assassination, I would like to take this opportunity to thank those of you who were kind in your responses to my problem. I would also like to offer the following in my defense:
2. As I stated, I am technically challenged, so while this may not be rocket science, I do not want to take up Guitar Repair 101 on the most expensive guitar in my collection (I only have 5-2 good, 2 o.k., and 1 junker) .
I agree about this. Certain facets of guitar repair should only be tried after some study and exoperience. Someone's main guitar is not the one to be doing experimental fretwork
3. I am aware that becoming a dealer does not automatically make someone an expert repairman, but I do assume when said dealer advertises sales & repair services on his website, he will at least have a working knowledge of basic setup work for that which he sells.
You left that part out. You just said "Gretsch dealer" you did not say he advertised himself as a full service venue
Since I am basically a cheapskate anyhow, I would certainly get a second opinion if my BS meter hit the red zone.
4. I am aware of two reputable dealers who repair (one Plek's) in OK City and Norman, OK (I imagine Richard knows of whom I speak), but I thought I would at least try the 50-mile trip first, and the 350 ones if not satisfied.
Thanks again, and please let me R.I.P.

There are limits to everything Mike.. So the short answer is no. They certainly can check the frets to make sure they are level, file/adjust the nuts and saddles etc.. The point I was trying to make (and not very well!) is that the salespeople are very knowledgeable compared to other guitar shops I've visited.
