Gibson Chet Atkins Studio Classic - pickup issue

Postby AngusH » Mon Feb 16, 2026 2:52 pm

Hi to anyone still checking in here - hoping for some advice/suggestions...

I have a 1997 Gibson Chet Atkins Studio Classic (nylon string/no sound hole - see pics below) which I recently had professionally serviced and set up.

The guitar is in generally excellent condition, but one of the piezos (? - the low E string) isn't working, and it wasn't a repair the luthier was able to undertake.

I've been unable to find a user manual online for either the guitar or the pickup, and so far my attempts to contact Gibson repair specialists (I'm in the UK) has drawn a blank. I've tried to contact Gibson customer service (apparently based in the Netherlands for Europe) but have yet to hear back.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has one of these, or something similar, and might be able to point me in the right direction for a repair or replacement.

The pictures below show the guitar and the electronics behind the panel on the back of the guitar.

Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Angus

Kirk Sand was using Barbera transducer bridges for the last several years on his guitars. It seems like he was using an insert of some sort to install the Barbera on those bridges. Since Kirk has passed away, it might be worthwhile to contact Barbera and see if Rich can give you some insight on replacing your pickup with one of his. I have a Barbera on my Takamine, and it sounds great. Check the link below.

I hope this is helpful!

Thanks Bill - I really appreciate you taking the time to come back to me on this, and I've had almost no response from the multitude of other avenues I've tried.

That's a good suggestion, so I'll get in touch with Barbera see what they suggest.

Thanks again :D

Hey Angus,

Hope you can get it fixed. Those guitars are too nice to not be played.
