Hello everyone, here Paolo writes !!!!
A curiosity about the evolution of the pickup used by Gibson on the Chet Atkins classic nylon guitar;
perhaps this discussion has already been dealt with before here, but I try to ask you anyway.
I believe that the “smooth” pickup model without grooves is mounted on the first models,
while the second one with the grooves for the single strings was chosen for the more recent models;
was that so? and why?
Re: Gibson Nylon Chet Atkins pickup, first e second series
I have the Chet Atkins Studio model (Nylon String). It has ser# 91687477 on the back of the headstock. According to that, it was made in Nashville, 17 June 1997. It has the sectioned pickup like your first photo. I don't know why or when they went to the the grooved pickup.

A little curiosity, but by any chance does anyone know if the
first pickups mounted on this nylon model were made by baldwin?
Grazie, Paolo.

I don't think they were made by Baldwin. From what I have seen, the pickup for the Studio was originally made by "Shadow" for Gibson. As far as I know, they are no longer available from Shadow or Gibson.
