Echo plex help

Postby Mike Forbis » Sun Jul 15, 2012 6:31 am

I know this is old news to you guys but there is no one other group I trust with giving me good info. I am interested in obtaining an echoplex.....question....is everyone using the original models, are they the only ones to consider, or.... are there good replacements out there....(I think Glen Bergin was using one in the Ohio Fingerpicking Room) for all you CAAS attendees who caught his performances...)...someone told me that was what he was using. I would appreciate all feedback.
Thanks

Mike, back in the late '90's, I had a Gibson Oberheim Echoplex rack mount unit that worked well. You might check ebay or google it. I'm not sure they are available these days. Good luck! Ron

Fulltone makes a tube powered tape echo unit.....but they will cost $1,000.

Also, have you looked into some of the modern units, like the Empress Superdelay? It can pretty much get the sound of a tape echo, but offers other functions (like tap tempo) that you won't get from an old Echoplex, or a new Fulltone.
Thanks,
George
