I have had the pleasure of a several PM's with David. I find him (in print) a very nice guy and he's shared with me some of his history, his loss, and some music and vids that I found simply moving and inspired.

I'm SO glad I do not know the history of the 'confilct' that went on.... I don't want to know, and have not asked David about it. Clean slate time, I say ? He's OK in my book.

Mitch, I've also had a similar experience with David. However, I've been around the board long enough to know the history.. and I do have some regrets, but life is short etc.
This has been beat to death, so my final words. Chet said people will remember him for his music. I personally feel that David is helping to accomplish that... fini

I want to thank my good friend, Stan Surman from the great state of Flordia for reacquainting w/ this forum. I've met some wonderful people here like David Elliott, Wes Southerland, Mitch,and others. Some very good players all for the same price of admission. It brings back all of those great memories. I remember how Stan and I met...I think it was due to a echoplex in a music store back in the early 80's. I tried an old echoplex out one day. I believe Stan came in the store later that same day. Well,, a couple days later I get a call and he says ..."You don't know me, but I just heard you play can I take some lessons from you."

I said I didn't play anywhere. I believe what happen was the echoplex could record what your playing for a few seconds or so (not sure) and Stan might of heard something I was doing ,and so later we met and been good friends ever since.

Stan, and I even done some shows together. I remember one concert in particularly at Civic center in New Jersey.We were doing the song "Somebody's Knockin" I had to do Chet part the best I could do,, and he was doing Lenny's part. He did it "So Well" in front of all those people. Stan Surman is a great player folks, and is a great guitar collector and guitar connoisseu as well as a artist for drawing. I believe his work is now display in gallerys in Florida. He said he did a portrait of Chet, but I think he sold it. I remember I would always be asking him,,, Can I use one of your guitars for one of my shows, because you couldn't find a guitar like that back then.

"I love my Gretsch guitar." Chet's idea's were so advanced,so ahead of its time.. but it sounds so different than my guitar from Heritage. It took hours to get as close as I could to my former sound w/ major EQ in studio. The natual sound I'm getting w/ the Gretsch 59 is very close to "More of that Guitar Country" album,which is not a bad thing, and I love that album. but maybe the only thing that I was doing (right) back years ago was trying to get a decent sound that might be alittle of a descendant from Chet's, but certainly not better just different w/ my Heritage. Once in great awhile someone would come up to me and say " Your guitar has a nice sound to it" What do you do to get that sound...well I don't use an amp.........tks dp

Great to see you on the board. You've got a great sound! A while ago - I tabbed your arrangement (pencil and paper) of "Tie a Yellow Ribbon." I think it's great.

I believe it was at the NAMM show in Anaheim CA. I met you through a great player, and long time friend named "Jerry Meagher" from Glendale AZ. If I'm not mistaken you wanted to have a picture taken holding my personal Signature Model Guitar from Heritage and you were one of the very few people that tried my personal guitar.(I could be wrong about that), but believe it was the 2rd Prototype made for me at the time. I remember distinctly rejecting the first Prototype model made by Heritage before that show.

Its a great honor for someone to tab out one of my arrangements. I would love to hear you play it. Over the years several people have ask me to come out w/ a tab book. Sometimes I would say on stage........................
"If you buy one of my tab books folks, Then you would have something to rap up your fish with"...tks so much....dp

I am glad to see you on the ChetBoard. I made some complimentary posts on some YouTube videos a few years back, and Amy wrote back, got my address, and sent me some recordings and a photo. Very nice touch. Pa Cobble had nice things to say about you as well before he passed.

I am very sad to hear about the recent tragedy in your life. Nothing any of us can say will help soothe that, so I will leave it at saying that I am thinking about you.

I would to say that I have owned a Heritage Golden Eagle for the past 10 years. It was my first "great" guitar, and I would put it up against any acoustic arch top guitar. It is a monster. I am sure your signature model was great as well.

I think you were the only one to say something nice about me.

I'm so sorry to hear about Pa Cobble has passed. I remember him well. He was such a great guy, and did extraordinary things just to hear me play. He drove from Memphis Tennessee to attend one of my shows up north in Pa. When I heard about it I wanted to meet him, and personally thank him. He also said something to the fact that "His dream was to play a certain song w/ Chet"......... I'm sure he has done many duets w/ Chet by now.

I would like to dedicate folks, this concert that I did back in 2004 to the memory of a "Great Man"
