Gallagher Guitars

Did Chet ever own or play a Gallagher guitar? I know Doc Watson did..
Pictures were everywhere in there shop and a lot of historic information there.
My son and I visited the shop today and enjoy seeing all the work that goes into making a guitar.

I've got a Doc Watson model from 1986 or so. It sounds great, but is difficult to play. I need to find a great acoustic setup guy, and have him turn it into a monster.

I'm sure Chet played one in the sense of "Let me try that Gallager" but I doubt he owned one.

He didn't have much in the way of acoustic flattops in his collection when he died. Probably didn't care to play them much.

I have custom Gallagher 12 fret guitar that is based on the Doc Watson model, in fact Doc played the guitar back stage after a performance and seemed to like it. Being a 12 fret-to-the-body makes it much easier and well balanced for finger- pickin' without finger picks. It has a slot head stock that makes strings a bit harder to change, but seems to work well with the shorter neck.

Don Gallagher had a display booth at CAAS several years ago with several different models including the Doc Watson model, but whether Chet ventured in to try one I don't know. Gallagher Guitars is a small family group (5th generation) and direct contact is easy for this type information. I've called a few times when Don's mother took care of phone calls, serial numbers, etc., and she was very and knowledgeable about their guitars.
