The Chetboard

Ok folks. I am a little hot under the collar right now so I will cut straight to the point. Many of you have seen the controversy concerning D. Paul. Earlier this year we all agreed to go forward and include this artist in our posts. Yet as of now we can't even post his name without it saying blue guitar. Please administrator fix this. He has tried to post things for us fingerstyle fans and players to enjoy. There are many that like his music as there are many that like other artists and both should exist in harmony on the chetboard. I for one would like to see him reach full potential going forward in a sincere way. We are striving for that. He needs support and not wisecrack posts. Recently a few posters have intentionally wrecked posts that I have put up. The usernames of "Doublestop" and now "Snowbird" have showed up and joined and the first time each have posted they bash David. Why??? I for one would like to know. Is there anyone else here that is disturbed by this. Don't hide behind a nickname, be a man and make yourself known.
Also If I post something here it is for the betterment of my friends and fellow guitar players, not for mockery. Unless my posts are offensive please administrator leave them up and don't delete them. I tried to send a private email concerning this matter a few weeks ago and the request was ignored so now I post it here.
This post is not to offend anyone here. I actually like the Chetboard community as a whole and respect each member individually. I buy the music and go to the artists shows. I do my part. I am just tierd of the way this matter is being handled from the top down. Now I step down from my soapbox....
Comments are welcomed and then lets move on from this using real names going forward, ok

Wes, I agree with you about the "blocking" of his name. It happened to me a few years ago when I "discovered" him on my own and asked about him here. The error message I saw was putting his name in the same category as profanity.

I also agree about not hiding behind "nicknames" and stepping forward and being known. Anything I say allows me to be "confrontable" at the CAAS conventions. I have nothing to hide and am not ashamed. I also intend to remain sensitive and tactful.

I do have some unanswered questions that I hope will be answered eventually:

1) How can recordings from 2 different times sound so identical?

2) How can someone who hasn't played for 2 years reach their prior level of expertise in a matter of a few months?

3) How can the guitar switch settings observed by 2 experts not coordinate with what's being heard?

Hopefully there are logical explanations to these and I'll be the first to apologize for my skepticism.

I appreciate you siding with my post fully. I agree with your questions and I don't have any answers but I do have a way of getting an answer and I will. Personally I like the music regardless of how it was made or when it was made. He is listed as a Yamaha musician on their website so I guess they believe in his full ability. I posted this information recently and the administrator (whoever he is) deleted it. Why? All I know and this is an honest answer... David says he recorded those tunes with a 59 Gent with no amplifier. I have no idea about electronics used or settings of any kind. I believe him cause I have no reason not to. The heritage guitar was a great sounding guitar but that would be a lot of trouble for little reward don't you think?

*note: this post was edited because I thought the all tracks were done with a Tyros 4 but David used old tracks with the 59 Gent in the first two tunes. Midnight Stranger is done with the Tyros. Sorry about the mistake, I made it honest.

There is no "bitterness" on my part. In actuality I'm hoping for the questions to be answered to increase DP's credibility. However, when specific questions remain unanswered this seems impossible. I WANT to believe that what I'm seeing and hearing is really as good as it sounds and looks. I'd LOVE to be able to play some of those songs as well as he does!

This is a post from David that I have cut and pasted about your question and we have discussed it in detail

"1.I'm playing live to backing recorded tracks that were used when I first created them so yes the instrumentation and tempo and bpm's are the same and also with Snowbird."

The playing you are seeing Is authentic playing with Grestch 59 with the Background Tracks as used on his albums just like you noticed. It is like this with that the first 2 tunes on the video. It is just to re-record the tunes with a Grestch 59 to get a better sound. Background tracks are the same still. You should read the post as he explains fully. As for the tunes on his next album he plans on the tracks being done with a Tyros 4 keyboard which I have mentioned before in previous posts. You can hear that on the audio of "Midnight Stranger In Nashville" which is also in the video and all parts are done by him on that track. Going forward he is striving for that to be his signature talent, it is part of his collaboration with Yamaha endorsing their keyboard and such... I hope you understand that I posted incorrectly at first and I appreciate you noticing and correcting it.

Except for the main guitar playing in that song, I can understand about using the same background tracks. It just sounded to me like EVERYTHING had been re-recorded and he was just "string-syncing". I can see though how it's possible
to have his part sound almost identical when his entire backup tracks was reused. Thanks for clarifying that question.

As someone who just graduated grad school and is searching for jobs I'm hesitant to post under my real name. I don't bash people. Although this board shouldn't effect my professional career I've gotten in the habbit of not using my real name on any type of internet forum.
