CHEESEY Homer & Jethro Geico commercial take-off :-(~

Postby Mike Nye » Mon Aug 06, 2012 2:40 am

Has anyone here seen that CHEESEY Homer & Jethro Geico Insurance commercial take-off ? ? ?

It's a Country Bumpkin theme that ends with two guys standing ALONE & SILENT on a barnyard stage set, with one holding an archtop and the other holding a mandolin like a couple of dummies of H & J . . .

NOTHING FUNNY or INTERESTING about it at all :-(~

A real waste of time & energy, as I DON'T BUY insurance from companies that spend MILLIONS on STUPID COMMERCIALS that jack up their rates ! ! !

NOT with GEICO . . .

I'm insured with Wawanesa . . . NO STUPID COMMERCIALS and LOWEST RATES with an A++ rated company ! ! !

First, let me say I haven't seen the commercial as described. (Homer and Jethro bad clone) I can't find it.

but

Google, being like it is, is always a fun thing.

You can enter the name of an insurance company and add the word "complaint" and get all kinds of interesting information.

I find that any insurance company will do what it can to Not pay a claim if it can. After all, they're in business to make money, not give it away.

Also interesting is the list of commercials for Wawanesa that are on YouTube.

All I'm saying is that insurance companies are pretty much all the same. Some have bigger budgets but even Wawanesa has the budget to create commercials if not necessarily run them on your local TV channel.
...that's how it looks to me...The opinion expressed above is my own and does not necessarily reflect the views of this station. Your mileage may vary...

That should do it.

That is one mindboggling stretch to say that is a take off of Homer and Jethro...I see no connection whatsoever ...just two goofy guys not dressed like them one playing a mandolin and one playing a guitar saying something corny...

WHat in the hell would be the point? 99.9% don't even know who H & J are anymore....hell I am having a hard time finding people here in Nashville under 30 who even know who Chet Atkins is...

Chet told me some great Homer and Jethro stories and maybe one day I might post one of them....what a pair of characters....

My great late friend Kenny Gill used to play guitar for them on the road and he told me a few as well....

One thing for sure, if you wanted to see Chet Atkins smile, just mention the names of Homer and Jethro...he loved those guys...PY told me Chet also said Homer Haynes was the single greatest rhythm guitarists he ever heard..

Well, when a writer is assigned to write these DUMB-ASS insurance commercials they'll TRY ANYTHING to leave their audience scratching their head, sayin': "What da Hell is that suppoesta mean?" in order to GET PAID ! ! !

Just look at the STUPID TV SHOWS these days like Modern Family. I'll watch re-runs of Married With Children anyday; at least Al Bundy was a FUNNY character, unlike the character he plays on MF ! ! !

Yes, two of the greatest entertainers ever! And I would add that Jethro Burns was probably the best mandolinist in the history of show business! (IMHO!)

Or as Chet said, "the greatest mandolin player in captivity."

Well, Chet and Jethro in the flesh. Good music and lots of humour.

Why can´t I play like that - it looks so easy?!
