Really good at his music. Several members of the guitar world have played/recorded one of his daughter's best known tunes: Don't Know Why by Norah Jones.

I remember buying that album of Chet's with Ravi on it. Not one of my favorite pieces, but it did show Chet's remarkable ability to adapt. Norah Jones is one of my favorite female singers.

If I'm not mistaken, that album, 'It's A Guitar Worls', featured Chet with Harihar Rao, not Ravi Shankar. The songs were 'January In Bombay' where Chet taught harihar and 'Ranjana' a tune Harihar taught Chet. Of course, I could be wrong.

To be honest about it, I don't recall which album Ravi Shankar was on with Chet, but in response to your post, I believe you are wrong, as I've never heard of the person you've mentioned...

Hari Har Rao was a sitar teacher and author who was at UCLA in 1967 in the ethno-musicality department. He and Ravi Shankar co-founded the Music Circle in 1973 to promote Indian classical music. It was Hari Har Rao who performed with Chet. One piece I liked very much on that album was a tune that Rao wrote called January in Bombay. Chet did some neat riffs on the album in a duet with Rao. He proved once again that he could play anything he wanted to...including Indian classical tunes!

Hi John,

Oh yes...if he's who I think he is (Jere?) he is indeed one of the most knowledgeable persons on Chet Atkins there is, so I would not question him in that area! I just found it strange that they would have a picture of Ravi Shankar on the album, (as I recall), when it wasn't Ravi playing...but then, maybe I'm confused about that also, as I haven't actually looked at the album for over 30 years!

It's pretty slow, but it seems to work... Track 7 and 8 are the tunes mentioned with Rao on them.
