My 2nd Tommy Jones Video from 1986!

Chronologically this is the first of my 2 videos of Tommy Jones. This one was in 1986. We had already been friends for 10 years and we had mostly stayed in touch by phone and I was able to bring him to Cedar Lake Academy where I was teaching in Central Michigan at the time in Feb., 1982 for a concert and some of you reading this were there that day. I also spent a week with him in Nashville the following Summer of 1983 when he had a regular spot on the show at Boots Randolph’s night club every night. I have a few audio cassette tapes of some of our visits but this was the first video I had taken of him after he left Nashville and went back to Florida to move in with his folks.

I’m especially proud to have this footage of some of our conversation and also capturing him sitting between his folks and talking about his pet buzzard, Barney. The casual non-professional
nature makes it unique.

The video was taken by a friend of mine who owned the camcorder that was used. He was the father of one of my students from my days of teaching in Florida right out of college. You will hear some of my playing but my friend kept the camera on Tommy. I had mix feelings about that but there was no other way for me to see his face when I finished up the end of “Stars and Stripes” with the ending to “The Claw”. I generally don’t look up when I play and I enjoyed seeing his amusement.

Again, I’m sorry about the sound quality. I felt that it was more important to get this up on YouTube for you rather than to spend any more time trying to improve it. If any of you have expertise in this area, feel free to download it and work with it!

Grazie di nuovo Rande.

I am happy to be able to see these videos.
Unfortunately the world has lost this genius too prematurely.
I own two audio books / transcripts by Tommy Jones, I am proud of it and every written note is pure gold.
I would like to know if there is any other written material of his arrangements.
Really pure gold. I envy you Rande, for meeting him in person.

Thank you, Paolo Spadaro.

I'm sorry, Paolo. It looks like you already have the books I was thinking of. Do you have the videos from these?

I'm glad that you have those, Paolo. I will look for other materials. I think I have PDF's of the tab for Tommy's version of "Orange Blossom Special" and his original "Dixie Hummingbird" that was tabbed out by Deyan Bratic.

Yes, Rande, it was at C.A.A.S. in the mid 90s. I went to my first one 1994 and several more after that. He was great.
