Got old Chet vinyls that need cleaning?

Postby Doug Working » Thu Dec 26, 2019 1:39 am

I ran across this pretty much serendipitously, and I wish I had known it back when I had vinyl records! It’s one of those “D’oh! Why didn’t I think of thats?”

If you have old Chet vinyls that have dirt in the grooves that make the record sound scratchy, this is an ingenious way to make them sound new again!

I don't see any suggestions or links. Am I missing something?

Yeah.

Back when I had my vinyl record collection, AGES AGO, it drove me crazy to hear that scratchy, crackling noise and I knew it was the stylus dragging through a bunch of crap that had settled in the grooves. It about drove me out of my audiophile brain.

I spent lots of money on expensive systems to try to eradicate it, but they were not really all that efficacious, for the money.

Had I known about the wood glue method, I could have saved myself some big bucks had been a cappy hamper.

I also remember the year CD’s came on the market, and I listened to my first Chet CD, and it struck me the CLARITY of the sound...so crystal clear and static free, not a crackle or a pop in sight, and I felt like I had gone to heaven.
