Book: Country Guitar Masters

I stumbled upon a book on Amazon called "Country Guitar Masters: Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed and Merle Travis" and is written by Jim Ohlschmidt. The description is most interesting:

Drawing on extensive interviews and historical research, this book takes an in-depth look at the lives and music of three towering figures in American guitar music-their innovations, instruments, essential recordings, and influence on today's musicians.

It seems to be published in 2009, but I've never heard of this book. Did it ever came out? Or is it like Rusty Russel's book; announced but never published. Can anyone tell me some more about it, cause the description is very appealing; a book about our heroes.

Jim got busy with other projects and that was put on hold. It would be great if he completed it. He's done extensive interviews with most of the greats (I was with him on a few of them myself), and has some great first-person material, as well as historical source material. Maybe someday it will be released.

Thanks for posting this. I hope it gets published someday. It sounds like it would be a great book.

It says "Out of Print - Limited Availability", and even "#11,791,263 in Books" sold. That seems to imply that it was printed and published, but as Craig says, that probably may not be so.

Thanks for the answers Craig and Vidar. I also e-mailed Jim himself and received a reply very quickly.

He said that "Acoustic Guitar" contracted him to write a manuscript, but he never finished it. It could be that someone else at AC finished it.

Very sad to hear. I still don't understand why there's nothing written about Jerry...

I think the #11,791,263 is where it "ranks" on Amazon...which is probably tied at the bottom of the list with all the other unpublished books.
