This will be a simple answer for a lot of you guys, but what tuning did Chet use on Ave Maria? I am speaking of the version on the "Almost Alone" album.
Thanks,

... so much for 'simple answers'
Just sayin'... I have no idea but it should be easy enough to figure out for sure which it was. He did record two versions

The "Almost Alone" version is in the G6 tuning. I am not certain about any other version.
Thanks

Thanks much. I have been wanting to learn that one for a long time. It just gives me cold chills every time I hear it. I thought it was an open G tuning, but was unsure, but the G6 makes sense. If I learn it wrong I'll blame it on you guys. haha
BTW, he did use the low C (slack key) tuning that Roger P mentioned on a couple of tunes on that album.
Thanks a lot.

Hi Richard,
E,B,G,D,G,D 1-6.
John Knowles did a great tab book on it available from Hal L. My book has a lot of bent pages in it.
I've learned a few from it and studied them all. Maybelle comes to mind. Anxious to hear you play it.
Regards,
GaryL

Thanks Gary. I'm sure whatever Dr. Knowles says is right on the money. I had a wonderful opportunity to visit with him briefly at the CAAS. Everything he plays is so very precise. I love to hear him play.
