The Chetboard

Just before the Super Bowl started, there was a commercial. Sorry, I didn't pay attention to what the commercial was about. But the music in the background was someone picking Stars and Stripes Forever. It didn't sound like Guy or Chet to me, but it could have been. Anybody hear this, or recognize the picker? It was a nice surprise.

I definitely noticed it and was certainly surprised!. I know that others besides Chet and Guy have learned this (me) but I'm still not sure that it wasn't Guy, since he has done a lot of commercial work. I agree that it didn't sound like any of Chet's recordings. What's funny is that a whole new group of listeners will be amazed to hear this and marvel at the fact that it was played on the guitar.

If one of you guys would volunteer the name of the commercial producer we might be able to find a link to it

My friend tells me it was an Elantra commercial, whatever that is.

The arrangement sounds like Guy's arrangement (I use to play this but found it too hard to maintain). This sounds like the melody is overdubbed to me (Nothing wrong with that just an observation). when listening through head phones it sounds like 2 guitars with their own space in the mix.

Roger, I would say that playing a self-accompanied version of "Jerry's Breakdown" while riding a unicycle would be much harder to maintain than playing "The Stars and Stripes". However, I believe that frequent practice with either would be necessary for such maintenance.

Hi Rande, Its hard enough just keeping up the stuff I do play. I wish I had the time to practice all of the pieces I would like to play. I don't have to worry about riding the unicycle when I play however I do sometimes get request. Hope everything is going good for you.

A lot of people don't have too much trouble keeping up with what they play because they haven't gotten to a high enough level to have much to lose. On the other hand, what you play is difficult enough that I could see you losing some of it if you didn't keep up with it.

Yes, I'm doing much better than when I met you, although you wouldn't have known that anything was wrong, since the CAAS events around me were a huge distraction from my problems.

Just for the record, no, that was not me on the Hyundai Superbowl commercial last Sunday. I knew nothing about it, even as it was happening, as I tend to mute the sound during the commercials. I agree; the piece was double-tracked by someone. If they had even bothered to ask me, I could have perhaps delivered to them a peppier version, maybe even sold a few more cars for them.
