i first met chet atkins when i opened a show for him here at the guthrie
theatre in mpls. i was scared to death at the prospect of meeting such a big
hero, so i kept to myself backstage. i'll never forget, chet's road mgr,
george lunn came looking for me saying that chet wanted to meet me. i went
to his dressing room and from the moment i met him he treated me like an old
friend. i went on to work with chet many times later on a prairie home
companion. i recorded with him and i even had the indescribable honor of
playing guitar at his funeral. i will always remember the unsolicited
kindness and friendship he showed me from the first time i met him.
