Hi Doug.

I recently received the most unbelievable performance of one of Chets songs done in the same style and in the same era as you described. It is just unbelievable that somebody could be so good and the tone quality could be so perfect. On top of the great quality he's also doing a duet with one of the greatest guitar players in the world, Brent Mason. This is the best version I've ever heard. The Four Aces released this song in 1956 and was in the top 20 known as “I only Know I Love You”. Here is “Na voce 'na chitarra e 'o ppoco 'e luna”. The backing track minus all guitar work is available.

Na voce 'na chitarra e 'o ppoco 'e luna”. is one of those exotic Chet tunes that Mr Guitar recorded that I could never pronounce let alone play! Chet had a few of those.

Thank you for the link. I'm fixin' to give it a listen!

Ok. I listened, and oooooooooo-eeeeeeeeeee!

If that don't brighten up yer day, nothing ever will!!!!

Was I amazed?

Yes indeed!!

He nailed it! It was like 99.9999 % close to Chet's recording. I was really, really impressed! I mean, I had to listen really, really, REALLY close to tell if it was Chet or not. Of course, when the second guitar came in, then I knew, but other than that, it might have fooled my ears.

Only thing, I tried to listen to it two or three times, and it cut off in the middle of the tune. Is that just my I-pad, or are you having the same issue?

And what is the guy's name?

Thanks, Doug.

Must be your iPad that is hanging it up a bit.

I'm glad that you enjoy music from that era so well like I do. IMHO it was a highlight year for Chet's music.

What do you think....should I post this tune to the audio section of this board for everyone else's listening pleasure?

Oh, I definitely think you should post it. For sure.

I have a second I-pad. I'll try it on that one. What happens is that it gets around halfway through the recording, then it suddenly jumps right back to the start. So I never get to hear the entire recording.

What is the name of the guy who is playing?

Also curious if you have any idea the year it may have been recorded?

Thanks for letting me know what you think. I'm taking your suggestion to post.

I have given so much time and attention to this song lately.

When I listen to the great players of finger style I'm always comparing them to Chet which always leaves me thinking that "something is missing”. But this feeling is not so with this performance of "I only Know I Love You"

Chet's original version came out in 65 or 66 I think..? Different tempo changes and the style change was so clever by Chet.

I love this song version as much as the original with the added creativity.

David Paul is playing on the Del Vecchio. Brent Mason is in the middle and at the end of this piece. Brent Mason is absolutely one of the all time greatest guitar players. David Paul is overwhelmingly the best I’ve heard in comparison to the sound of Chet.

Mixing it up with Brent Mason was a brilliant idea.

I can lead you to the backing track minus Mr. Mason and Mr. Paul if you are interested. Let me know.
